The Life of Sir Samuel Adegoke Omoyeni
Sir Samuel Adegoke Omoyeni was born on September 16,1946, in Ikoyi-Ilesha, at the Omoyeni compound. He was the beloved son of Mr. Steven Omoyeni, a skilled carpenter, and Mrs. Arola moradeke Omoyeni, a hardworking trader.
Although he never had the chance to meet his grandfathers, he grew up close to his grandmothers. In his early years, he and his parents lived with his maternal grandmother, fondly called Oya Laro, in Muku, Ilesha.
His educational journey began in 1953, at the age of five, when he enrolled in Okuku Methodist School. In 1955, after his family moved into their new home in Ikoyi, he continued his education at the African church School. Later, he attended Council Secondary Modern School in Morocco village which was also in ilesha and later OSU High School, but financial difficulties forced him to pause his formal education.
Despite these challenges, Samuel excelled academically and was recognized for his leadership, serving as one of the school prefects. Determined to build a skill and career, he began learning tailoring between 1958 and 1963. After nearly five years of training, he graduated and opened his own tailoring shop at Adeti in Ilesha, where he's not only sewed but also sold men’s clothing.
It was during this period that he met his wife, Mrs. Alice Abosede Adunni, in 1968. The couple married and soon welcomed their first child, Abimbola . With dreams of a better future, Samuel moved to Ibadan in search of greener pastures, leaving his family temporarily in Ilesha.
In Ibadan, he rented a shop opposite Mary Way High School, continuing his tailoring business while also working as a casual staff at a government agricultural farm (NCRI) with his uncle, Mr. Adesuyi, popularly known as Baba Odoana. Over time, he left the farm job to focus solely on tailoring and later ventured into taxi driving. With God’s blessings, he bought his first car, a Datsun, and, as his business grew, purchased another.
Once he was more established, Samuel brought his wife and children to join him in Ibadan. Their family grew, welcoming Kayode omoyeni in 1972, followed by Titilayo omoyeni ogungbade, Fisayo omoyeni and Lola omoyeni ajagbe.
After spending more than nine years in Odoana, the family moved to their own house in Alexander, Ibadan With his close friend Alhaji Tajudeen Ademola, also known as “Confidence,” who brought him to apata to buy his first land and build his house in Alexander and they had worked together as taxi drivers after he introduced it to him.
A man of faith, Samuel attended Christ the Rock Church in Ibadan, where he served faithfully as the Head Usher before later joining Christ Apostolic Church (C.A.C.) in Odoana.
As life went on, the family grew with the addition of two more daughters, Temitope Omoyeni akinsanya and Abigail Omoyeni. He and his wife enjoyed many happy years together until her passing in 2000 at the age of 48, a heartbreaking moment for the family. Through faith and unity, they found strength to move forward.
After his firstborn relocated abroad, Samuel eventually retired, grateful for the love and care shown by his children. In 2004, he traveled to America and later to the United Kingdom, where he enjoyed memorable experiences before returning to Nigeria to live a peaceful and relaxed life.
Today, Sir Samuel Omoyeni remains strong and healthy, a testament to God’s grace and the devotion of his children. On September 16, 2025, he will joyfully celebrate his 80 birthday, surrounded by family, love, and gratitude for a life well lived.
